The Lovers Shrine

In the middle of the bustling city of Osaka, you can find Tsuyunoten Shrine(露天神社). The temple is famous for couple who wish to have a strong bond for each other.

The story behind the temple is tragic though.

It is a story of Tokubei, an assistant manager of a soy sauce company and Ohatsu a prostitute.  The two fell in love after accidentally meeting at Ikutama Shrine. Fate was not kind to the lovers and they ended up committing suicide together or rather Tokubei killed Ohatsu first then killed himself afterwards.

The story of Ohatsu and Tokubei is based on a well-know suicide incident which happened inside the shrine in 1703.
